What this actually is
Every other entry in this range is a camera bolted to a vehicle. This one is the camera your officer is already wearing, dropped into a powered cradle when they get in. It charges while it sits there, keeps recording through the windscreen if you want it to, and comes back out on the belt when they get out. One device, one evidence trail, one set of batteries to manage.
The honest limit is that it is one camera with one view. It cannot cover a reversing manoeuvre and the nearside and the cabin at once, it has no alarm inputs, and it records a shift on a battery rather than holding days on a drive. What it does have is everything the SC880 already has: 4K, six-axis stabilisation that earns its place on a moving vehicle, 300 seconds of pre-event buffer, 5G live streaming and IP68 sealing. For a supervisor’s car or a patrol vehicle whose crew already carry SC880s, that is often the whole requirement met at no extra hardware cost.

Is this a different camera from the SC880 you sell as a body camera?
No, it is the same camera. There is one Hytera SC880 and it is either worn on the chest or seated in a cradle in the vehicle, and nothing about the device changes between the two. We have given the vehicle deployment its own page because it answers a different question, but the full specification lives on the SC880 body camera page and we would rather link you there than repeat it and risk the two drifting apart. Which vehicle mount is it, and what is the part number?
That is the honest weak point of this option and we would rather say it plainly. Hytera publishes no vehicle mount, car mount or in-car charging cradle for the SC880. Their own product page names no accessories for it at all, and they publish no in-car video product of any kind, because their vehicle line is mobile two-way radios. So there is no manufacturer part number for us to quote. We specify a powered cradle against your vehicle and your camera, and we confirm the exact part in writing before you order rather than leaving it implied.
When should I choose this over a fitted recorder?
When your officers already carry SC880s and the vehicle needs a view of the road rather than full coverage. You get 4K, six-axis stabilisation, a 300 second pre-event buffer and 5G streaming for the price of a cradle, and the camera leaves with the officer. Choose a fitted recorder instead when you need more than one view, when footage has to sit on the vehicle for days rather than a shift, when you need reversing or blind spot cameras, or when you want driver monitoring. Those are different jobs and we will say so rather than sell you the cheaper answer.
Does it keep recording while it is in the cradle?
Yes, and the cradle charges it at the same time through contact pins, so the camera is not running its battery down while it sits there and leaves the vehicle full. The six-axis electronic stabilisation is worth noting here: it exists to steady a camera on a walking officer, and it does more visible work on a vehicle dashboard over rough surfaces than it ever does on a torso. Set the ball joint to the road ahead or into the cabin depending on what the vehicle is for.
Can the same footage sit alongside our worn footage?
Yes, and that is the main structural argument for this approach. It is one device on one evidence chain, so the vehicle footage and the officer’s footage dock to the same station, land on the same server, and carry the same digital signature and hash verification. With a fitted recorder you have two systems to administer, two retention policies to keep aligned and two places to look when an incident is reviewed.
What are we giving up by not fitting a recorder?
Four things, and they are worth listing rather than glossing. One camera view instead of four to twelve. Sixty-four gigabytes on the camera instead of a hard drive holding days. No alarm inputs or outputs, so nothing on the vehicle can trigger it and it cannot drive a beacon. And no driver AI, so no lane departure, fatigue detection or blind spot monitoring. If any of those is a requirement, this is not the right answer and one of the fitted recorders is.

The SC880 in a Vehicle Against Common Requirements
Because this is a body camera, the same evidence rules apply to it whether it is worn or mounted, which is simpler than it sounds: the obligations you already meet for worn footage carry across to the vehicle without a second policy.
- One evidence chain, worn and mounted: the same camera, dock, server and retention policy covers both, so there is no second system to govern.
- Evidence integrity on the device: digital signature verification and hash generation, which is what the SC880 publishes. Note it does not publish AES 256, unlike the SC580.
- A register of authorised users: held on your server, exactly as it is for the worn deployment.
- Notification where it applies: a camera on a dashboard is visible equipment, but the obligation to tell people they are recorded does not change because it moved off a chest.
- Not a school bus system: school transport requires seven cameras and a recorder. One camera in a cradle cannot cover it.
- Training before enforcement powers: an obligation the regulation places on the deploying entity, unchanged by where the camera sits.
- Fitted safely: under 180 grams is a light fitting, but a cradle that lets go under braking is a projectile. It is surveyed per vehicle.
