Overview

What the V500 does

The longest-running camera in the range. Twelve hours covers a double shift without a battery change, and the camera has no removable cell to lose.

LTE runs on an eSIM with your choice of provider, so footage can be pulled while the officer is still out. Where there is no urgency, the Smart Dock offloads the whole shift at the end of it.

Questions

Before you specify the V500

Questions we are asked about this model.

No, it uses an eSIM, which is provisioned rather than inserted. You choose the provider and the profile is loaded onto the camera. In practice this removes the SIM tray as a point of water ingress and as something an officer can remove.

It is Motorola’s published runtime and it is the longest in our range, but like every published figure it assumes a particular configuration. Streaming over LTE for most of the shift will draw it down faster than recording locally. For a standard eight to ten hour shift with occasional streaming, twelve hours leaves real headroom.

No. The V500 has no user-replaceable cell, which is a deliberate trade: fewer parts to lose, better sealing, and a runtime long enough that most deployments never need a swap. If your officers genuinely work past twelve hours, look at the SC880 or the Xignal M530 and M535, which all take replaceable cells.

It is built to work with Motorola’s evidence software, and video download and live connectivity both run over TLS to that backend. It can also be deployed onto a private server alongside the rest of the range. Tell us which route you are taking and we will scope it with the cameras rather than after them.

Not an infrared LED. It uses a 0.1 lux sensor, which holds a usable picture in very low light using whatever light is there, but it will not see in complete darkness the way the SC580, SC880 or the Xignal models do with their infrared lamps. If your officers work unlit areas, say so and we will steer you to an infrared model.

The camera side of it, yes. Footage is AES-256 encrypted at rest and in transit, the camera cannot be mounted as a USB drive so there is no copy path to a personal device, and every operation is audit-logged. The remaining obligations sit with the deploying entity rather than the hardware, including written approval before sharing and training before officers go out. We can scope the storage and management side alongside the cameras.

What the rules ask

The V500 Against Common Requirements

The rules differ by country, but they ask the same things of the footage: that it can be shown to be unaltered, that only authorised people saw it, and that the people recorded were told. They also tend to reach further than buyers expect, covering inspectors and contractors working for a public body as well as police.

No camera answers all of it on its own. What follows is each requirement, and the part of the system that meets it.
