What the M710(G4F) does
The smallest recorder in the range and the one that suits a vehicle carrying a driver and a handful of cameras rather than a cabin full of passengers. Four channels of 720p covers the road ahead, the cabin, a reversing view and one more angle, which is the honest shape of a patrol car, an ambulance, a van or a light municipal vehicle.
It records to the same 2.5 inch hard drive as the larger recorders, up to 4TB, with an SD card kept as a mirror, so a smaller vehicle is not forced onto a smaller retention window. A G-sensor is built in and triggers event recording on impact and harsh driving, which is the feature that earns this recorder on a duty of care case. Live view, position and two way audio run over the optional 4G module, and it switches between 3G and 4G on its own where coverage is thin.

Figures published by the manufacturer. Two notes on the source: its specification table gives the SD card mirror as 128 GB while its feature summary says 256 GB, so the table figure is published here and the larger card is worth confirming on a quotation; and the table gives positioning as GPS and BeiDou where the summary says GLONASS. The 4G module, the driver AI cameras and the sensor options are specified at order rather than fitted across the range. Where a figure reads Not published, the manufacturer does not state it, which is not the same as the feature being absent.

Is 720p enough for a vehicle camera?
For most of what a vehicle camera is asked to do, yes. At four channels on a patrol car or a van the recording is there to establish what happened, who was present and in what order, and 720p carries that clearly on a normal cabin or road view. Where it starts to matter is reading a plate at distance or identifying a face across a car park, and there the M720(G4F) records the same four channels at 1080p on the same hardware. The other side of the trade is real: 720p uses roughly half the space, so the same drive holds about twice as many days.
What does AHD or CVBS only rule out?
It rules out TVI and CVI cameras. The M710(G4F) takes AHD or the older CVBS analogue standard, where the M720(G4F) and M728(G4F) also accept TVI and CVI on the same inputs. If the fleet already has cameras fitted, this is the first thing to check, because a TVI camera on an existing vehicle would mean either replacing the cameras or moving up to one of the other two recorders. On a new installation it changes nothing, since the cameras are specified with the recorder.
Why choose the M710 over the M720?
Cost per vehicle, and the retention that 720p buys. They are the same size, the same weight, the same power range and the same alarm and serial inputs, so the fitting is identical. The M720(G4F) gives 1080p and accepts TVI and CVI cameras as well. Choose the M710 when the fleet is large, the views are close range and days of retention on the vehicle matter more than pixel count. Choose the M720 when a plate or a face has to be readable, or when existing cameras are TVI or CVI.
Can I use this on a school bus?
No. Regulated school transport typically requires seven cameras, four exterior and three interior, and this recorder has four channels. The eight channel M728(G4F) is the model that covers a bus wherever AHD is accepted, and some authorities require IP cameras, which changes the specification again. The M710(G4F) still has a place in a school transport operator’s fleet, on the supervisor vehicles and the light vehicles that support the buses.
What does the built-in G-sensor actually do?
It measures acceleration, so the recorder can tell the difference between normal driving and an impact, a harsh brake or a sharp swerve. When the threshold is crossed it raises an alarm and locks the recording around that moment, including the pre-event footage already buffered, so the clip survives the overwrite cycle instead of being lost days later. In practice that is what turns a rolling recording into usable evidence for an insurance claim or a duty of care question, because nobody has to know an incident happened in order to preserve it.
Where do the days of retention actually live?
On the drive in the vehicle first, and on the server after that. The hard drive is a rolling buffer sized to the route, and 720p across four channels stretches it a long way, but it is still a buffer. Longer retention lives on the server the footage is offloaded to. Three routes run alongside each other: reduced rate streaming over 4G while the vehicle is moving, full resolution transfer over Wi-Fi when it reaches the depot, and manual extraction of the drive or the SD card when an incident needs the original file.

fleet and duty of care rules
The M710(G4F) Against Common Requirements
Being clear about this one first: at four channels the M710(G4F) is not the school bus recorder, and no configuration of it will be. It is the recorder for the smaller vehicles in the same fleet, and those carry obligations of their own. This is what applies, and what it asks of the system rather than of the box.
- Not a school bus recorder: school transport requires seven cameras. Four channels cannot cover that, so specify the eight channel M728(G4F) for buses.
- Telematics on heavy vehicles: many authorities require driving hours, harsh braking, acceleration and speeding to be reported on heavier vehicles, and licensing can depend on it.
- G-sensor evidence on impact: the built-in sensor locks the footage around a collision or a harsh manoeuvre so it survives the overwrite cycle.
- Position from an approved provider: the built-in GPS and BeiDou module reports position, and the link to the approved provider is configured at commissioning.
- Retention sized on the server: the vehicle holds a rolling buffer. Any retention period longer than the drive holds is met by the server, not by the recorder.
- Encrypted storage and an authorised user register: where footage documents a violation, the evidence rules that apply govern the server it lands on rather than the recorder itself.
- Written approval before footage is shared: the same regulation, and it is a process obligation on the operating entity, not a feature of any recorder.
